Valerian root – Valeriana officinalis.
Valerian root has been used for centuries due to its medicinal properties. It is now well known among horse owners as an excellent calming herb.
Valerian root works well at relieving nervousness, restlessness, stress & fear without affecting performance.
Valerian also has a relaxing and calming effect on the gut: If your horse’s nervousness transfers itself to his/her gut causing gassiness and loose droppings, Valerian will slow down the passage of food through the gut, helping relax the digestive system and improve digestion.
Valerian also works very well for moody hormonal mares and can help ease the cramping/discomfort associated with hormonal issues.
