Biotin is a B-vitamin. It is similar to other B-vitamins in that it is essential in the conversion of feedstuffs to energy so horses can grow, work, and reproduce. Biotin is found in virtually every cell in the body and is an essential co-enzyme in carbohydrate, fat, and protein metabolism.
Research focusing on biotin as a means of improving hoof quality of the horse started in the mid 1980s. Over the intervening years, various studies have found a statistically significant improvement from biotin supplementation on overall hoof condition and strength.
Analytical Constituents: Calcium 14.3 %, Phosphorus 0.1 %, Sodium 0.05 %, Lysine 0.28 %, Methionine 0.08 %, Fibre 13.2%, Crude protein 8.3%, Oil 1.3%, Ash 39.3%, AIA 2.3%.
Additives (per kg): Vitamins: Biotin (3a880) 5000 mg/kg.
Composition: Alfalfa meal, Calcium Carbonate.
Suggested Intake: Horse 1 to 2 scoops per day. Ponies 1/2 to 1 scoop per day.

Hi Sarah. You need to feed a hoof supplement longer than two months before expecting any significant change as it will only affect the new growth. I always advise feeding for an absolute minimum of 4 months before you expect any kind of improvement in the hoof wall quality. Healthy hoof wall only grows at approx 1cm per month and it takes 2-3 months to grow in a new sole. So there will be very little improvement to see after only 2 months. Fabulous stuff for hoof growth and 99% of feeds don’t contain enough! I’ve been advised to feed 60mg a day. Most feeds contain about 20mg. Anyway I ran out of my pro earth biotin just before I went on holiday so I had to buy some from my local feed merchants. They only did one that was pure biotin. Instead of £16.99 for 1kg it was £10.99 for 900g BUT pro earth biotin is TEN TIMES STRONGER! I only have to feed a tiny tiny amount added to my usual feed.
