Vitamin E is a powerful antioxidant that supports a healthy immune system and helps neutralise free radicals, the damaging by products of normal cellular activity.
Vitamin E is considered an essential nutrient because it cannot be synthesised by the horse. While this important nutrient is found naturally in fresh grass, as plants mature the amount of Vitamin E decreases.
The potency of vitamin E declines rapidly once forages are harvested and dried. Between 30% and 80% of vitamin E activity is lost between cutting and baling forage and even more is lost during storage. Horses are known to be poor at storing vitamin E. Research has shown that vitamin E is often deficient in the diets of horses that do not have access to continual grazing on fresh green grass, as well as in horses grazing on winter pasture.
Performance horses and those with heavy workloads, growing horses, pregnant mares, seniors & horses that are sick, can be exposed to increased levels of oxidative stress increasing the need for higher levels of vitamin E in their diets.
Researchers are continuing to examine the role of vitamin E in horse health.

Deficiency of Vitamin E may cause numerous symptoms which can include poor immunity, muscle stiffness and soreness. This can affect physical performance, particularly when endurance is important.

Horses most at risk of Vitamin E deficiency:
- Foals or aged horses.
- Horses without access to green pastures/ on poor pasture or not allowed sufficient grazing time.
- Horses fed on hay or pelleted feed.
- Unwell or stressed horses, especially those with issues affecting the immune system.
- Broodmares in late gestation/Lactating mares.
- Horses in intense training or competition.
Analytical Constituents:
Calcium 0.2 %, Acid Insoluble Ash 50.0 %.

Suggested intake:
Maintenance: 1 x 5ml scoop per day.
